Grounded outlets have a three-prong construction, which sends unwanted charge towards the neutral wire rather than appliances connected to the outlet. It ensures that whatever is connected to the outlet remains safe in case something goes wrong. Unfortunately, ungrounded outlets are more common than you might imagine and can lead to several risks.

If you have one in your home, you’re preparing yourself up for the following:

Health hazards

The first and biggest risk that an ungrounded outlet can cause is to your health. These can cause shocks upon coming into contact, whether by touching the outlet or by plugging any appliance into the socket.

Any outlets that are in your bathroom, kitchen or any other place with water in the vicinity should be grounded to make sure no one gets hurt. The shock generated by these can be extremely dangerous to the point of being lethal.

Electrical fires

Arcing is the phenomenon of electricity making its way away from its circuit or channel. It is very dangerous due to the anomalous behavior of electricity, which runs the risk of coming into contact with items that are outside the outlet. Arcing is very common in ungrounded outlets, which can cause anything nearby to catch fire.

Carpets or flammables nearby an ungrounded outlet is simply a recipe for disaster. Call in a licensed electrical contractor right away if there’s one in a place where you keep valuables.

Property loss

Even if you’re extremely careful about the ungrounded outlets within your home or office, there’s energy loss that can still occur. The electronics and appliances that you plug into these sockets can be short-circuited. Whatever is connected to the appliance may die if it is unable to withstand the power the circuit pushes towards it.

Not spending the small price to fix the outlet could lead to a bigger loss than you might imagine.

Don’t let a bit of negligence lead to a big loss that you regret for ages. Call in licensed electrical contractors to come in and fix any electrical problems within your home or office.
